Maybe you don't need more discipline {New Podcast Episode}

Hello Reader.

This afternoon, as I write this message, I’m sitting beside the campfire on a sunny Northwoods day.

And goodness, it feels good to be back in my Thursday rhythm with a new episode of the Luminary Life Podcast.

Years ago, I really struggled when I fell out of sync with my weekly episodes.

The more frustrated I became with myself, the more embarrassed I felt about not showing up. And the longer I stayed away, the harder it became to circle back into creating again.

So I tried everything.

Planning farther ahead.
Pre-recording episodes.
Scheduling things out.
Creating stricter routines.

I kept thinking I needed to become more disciplined.

But strangely, the harder I pushed myself to be disciplined, the farther I seemed to move away from the consistency I was trying to create.

Over time, I began to understand that what I really needed something very different . . . I needed a rhythm.

I often see this same struggle show up around sacred practice when clients use phrases such as . . .

I wish I were more disciplined.

I wish I could just stay consistent.

How do you make time for your spiritual practice?

For a long time, I thought discipline was the answer too. It makes sense. It's what our world mirrors back to us . . . yet what has made the biggest difference in my own life is learning how to live in rhythm with the natural cycles and seasons that surround us.

Life carries us in many different directions . . . our schedules change, people need us, our energy shifts . . . and then the practices that once felt effortless can suddenly feel far away.

When this happens, it is easy to decide that we have failed.

But perhaps the goal is not perfect consistency.

Perhaps the deeper practice is creating a rhythm that helps us return.

🎧 New Episode: You Don’t Need More Discipline. You Need a Rhythm.

In this week’s episode, I’m exploring the shift from trying to discipline ourselves into a spiritual practice toward creating rhythms that naturally help us come back to what matters.

For me, two of the most powerful rhythms have been the moon cycle and the turning of the seasons.

What I love about these rhythms is that they are already moving with a natural momentum . . . something I can step into, move with, and allow myself to be carried by.

They invite me to pause and consider . . .

  • What is happening right now?
  • What am I experiencing in the midst of this cycle?
  • What themes keep surfacing?
  • What is asking for my attention?

I think of this as tracking energy.

The details in our individual lives may be completely different, but often there is an underlying energetic thread moving through many of us at the same time . . . a collective energy.

And when we begin paying attention to those rhythms, something shifts.

We become less focused on forcing ourselves to stay on track and more interested in becoming attuned to what is already unfolding and leaning into the energy so it can support us.

A rhythm to return to

There is another piece of this that has become especially meaningful to me.

Showing up is always a choice.

But when we have a dedicated time and space held for us, a rhythm already established, and people who are showing up alongside us . . . it becomes easier to return.

This is something I experience personally through the gatherings I lead.

Preparing for a call asks me to pause, connect with Spirit, spend time with the stones, and to notice what is moving through my own life and what may be moving through the larger collective.

The commitment I make to the group also becomes a commitment I make to myself.

And this is very much at the heart of The Crystal WisdomKeepers Circle.

We gather in rhythm with the moon, the seasons, the stones, the Earth, and one another.

Not because we need another thing to keep up with, but because sometimes it is incredibly powerful to have a place to return.

A place to listen.
A place to reconnect.
A place to notice what is unfolding.
A place where your inner life has room to matter.

a soft message to close

If you have been telling yourself that you need to be more disciplined, perhaps there is another question worth asking:

What rhythm would make it easier for me to return to myself?

Remember . . . you may not need to push harder, you may simply need something steady enough to come back to.

Again.
And again.
And again.

with lots of love,
Lori
